African Palace joins the football legends at SoccerEx 09!
The SoccorEx Football Festival and Expo took place in Johannesburg over the weekend of the 28th - 29th November 2009. Taking place in the gorgeous Nelson Mandela Square in the heart of JHB’s Sandton, the Football Festival was the kick-off for the International SoccorEX Expo.
African Palace was a main sponsor and we hosted competition winners on the Sunday at the ' Football Legends' games. The African Palace VIP Players enjoyed a buffet lunch and mingled with world famous Football stars. A very lucky competition winner - who is an avid football fan - had the once in a lifetime opportunity to play in the "Legends Tournament" for England. The countries competing were: South Africa, England, The Netherlands and Brazil. The opening game was South Africa and England, the African Palace player took to the pitch and held his own against the Soccer giants playing a fever pitched game resulting in 3-0 To England.
The games continued with the teams battling it out to a Netherlands - England Final.
The Netherlands took the Trophy with a 2-0 Victory over England. The games were watched and supported with hundreds of spectators cramming in to get a glimpse of their favorite footballers - our VIP players had the exclusive opportunity to have lunch, mingle and enjoy their company.
The two-day festival of football included the Snickers National freestyler championship, youth tournaments, ladies matches, local entertainment, Showbol Africa national school, club and corporate finals and The David Beckham Football Academy.
The Teams comprised of these Football Superstars:
England: Bryan Robson, Andrew Cole, John Barnes, Ray Parlour, Ian Walker, Steve McMahon and manager Phil Thompson.
Brazil: Serginho, Aldair, Paulo Sergio, Paulo Rink, Gilmar Rinaldi and manager Carlos Alberto Torres.
South Africa: Mark Fish, Shaun Bartlett, Phil Masinga, Andre Arndse, Doctor Khumalo, Shoes Moshoen and manager Lucas Radebe.
The Netherlands: Ronald de Boer, Pierre Van Hooijdonk, Aron Winter, Arthur Newman, Guido Albers, Edo Boonstoppel and manager Ruud Gullit.
The African Palace player got a special mention at the prize-giving as the best 'amateur' guest player in the tournament. A once in a lifetime opportunity simply by entering the competition online at Africanpalace.com.
