74 year old newcomer wins WSOP

Freddie Ellis, a 74 year old real estate broker, has won the $10 000 Seven Card Stud WSOP Tournament. Hailing from Brooklyn, this was Ellis’ first WSOP competitive event and he beat out Poker great, Daniel Negreanu who busted out in 10th place with winnings of $36 267. Ellis plays regularly at the Mixed Game table at Borgata Casino in Atlantic City. He says, “The main reason I can to Las Vegas was to play in the world seven card stud championship.” Ellis is a widowed former night club singer from the 1950’s and he has a number of records to his name under the Decca label. When he retired from singing, he invested very successfully in New York real estate. Ellis scooped $373 751 for winning the event.
Other Poker heavy weights in the tournament were Eric Drache, Max Pescatori, Hasan Habib, Jeffrey Lisandro and Phil Ivey. They were joined by Antanas ‘Tong G’ Guoga, David Grey, Freddy Deeb, Vanessa Rousso and Erick Lindgren.
