Gambling Crackdown: 100 Detained

More than 100 people have been detained by Beijing police following a crackdown on a gambling syndicate that operated in a nationwide gambling network. 21 Chinese provinces were infiltrated by the gang, who set up a gambling portal allowing internet users to access overseas gambling portals. Real-time casino games such as Baccarat and Roulette were the most popular games accessed as these could be played in real time and accessed through online video. This year alone, the gang’s systems had over 52 000 bets, a gambling spend of $308m (2.1 billion yuan).
