Poker Recognized as a Sport in Lithuania
5 April 2010

The Lithuanian Sports Poker Federation has recently been given permission to organize non-commercial poker tournaments. This comes after the small Baltic nation of Lithuania has reported that they now officially recognize poker as a sport in the country. After nearly seven years of lobbying by the National Gambling and Gaming Business Association, gambling was finally legalized in 2001. There are currently twelve operating casinos for the nation’s 3.3 million inhabitants. The Lithuanian Sports Poker Foundation has confirmed that it will start planning and organizing poker tournaments immediately. The inaugural event is planned as early as the end of April 2010.
