US Poker players denied payments
12 June 2009

The US government has gone up a gear in its attack on internet gambling with federal prosecutors requesting that American banks put a hold on millions in payments owed to online Poker player citizens. The total value of the payments is reported to be $33 million which is owed to over 27, 000 players who have registered at four overseas Poker websites, including PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker. No statement has been released by the United States Attorneys’ office but spokerpersons from the various banks have confirmed that they have received the requests and that they would be complying with them. This move is regarded by industry experts as being very aggressive and a move away from the government’s past movement against online sports betting. The government is holding that the funds “constitute property involved in money laundering transactions and illegal gambling offenses.”
