Icahn to buy Tropicana?

It has been speculated within the industry this week that billionaire Carl Icahn, the former owner of Sands Casino Hotel, has been thinking about buying the financially troubled Tropicana Casino and Resort. The casino may soon be up for auction following their bankruptcy. This comes on the heels of massive job shedding from ten of Atlantic City’s eleven major casinos. The casino’s woes have been linked in part to the global recession and competition from the new slots venues in Pennsylvania and New York State. Icahn’s attorney Gilbert Brooks and a group of other secured lenders, hold the $1, 4billion mortgage on the Tropicana.
