Mthatha License Still Up For Grabs

The Eastern Cape Gambling and Betting Board advised this week that the Lukhanji Leisure Group have been awarded the Queenstown casino license for the second time. The license for Mthatha has not been awarded as there is a vicious legal war raging between the committee and Elonwabeni Resorts. Elonwabeni and Ekuphumleni Resorts have appealed to the Grahamstown High Court for a review of their applications and overturn the committee’s decision. The Resorts claim that the Board’s approach to their tenders was “confused, irrational and unfair”, with decisions being influenced by ‘deliberate bias by some members of the Board’.
