April was a busy month for the team at African Palace! Between the plans for Easter and family, we were kept on our toes with our promotions.

I am sure that the suspense of the last ODI match between South Africa and Australia had you on the edge of your seat! Our lucky ticket winners felt the same way!

For those of you who are interested in finding out the answer to our competition question of which sporting legend was voted as South Africa’s ‘Cricketer of the 20th Century’ in 1999 was Robert Graeme Smith, undoubtedly one of the greatest sporting heroes. We had the pleasure of giving away double sets of tickets to some of players who entered our ‘Howzat’ competition.

These fortunate folk joined some of the team of African Palace in a luxurious suite on the fourth floor of Wanderer’s Stadium on the 17th and they were entertained in style! From the scrumptious snacks and dinner to drinks and goodie hampers, our lucky winners were given the royal treatment African Palace style!

Thank you to Alphons C, Andre B, Dirk and Barbara vdB, Berto P, Henry D, Kobus, Isabel vR, Marco B, Ona B and Ruan P for joining us for the match and by all accounts, it was a day to remember!

We decided to splash out this Easter – we bought ten very stylish retro chocolate fondue fountains, which we then proceeded to give away to ten lucky players!

We had a record number of entries who had to tell us where the word ‘chocolate’ came from. Our favourite sweet treat originally came from the ancient tribe of the Aztecs in Mexico, where it was originally called xocolatl in their language, Nahuatl. Associated with the Aztec’s goddess of fertility, this delectably decadent dessert was brought to the rest of the word by the Spaniards. So now you know!

The winners of our chocolate fountains were Amanda B, Belinda L, Debbie P, Annatjie S, Reenee M, Karin vdR, Sharmaine S, Tyrone vZ, Jezina L and Werner K. Congratulations! Enjoy your new addition to your kitchen!

The Easter Bunny may have delivered all of his eggs and other treats at the beginning of April but he left something behind in the gardens at African Palace. We found some sinfully sweet scaled bouncing bunny bonuses for those players who made a deposit between the 28th and 29th April. Over the two day month end promotion, we gave away the yummy bunny amount of R214 557.95 in bonuses! What a sweet way to end the month!

The team at African Palace is proud to be launching our new and innovative Poker Room in May 2009. Jacques G scored R9 000 on the Standard Five Reel and Deiter vZ got his share of Lotto Madness, to the tune of R47 000. Catharina S and Michelle D took on the Silent Samurai and bested him with collective winnings of R42 000. Kobus v D is now R16 000 richer after his stint at the Double Zero Roulette table. Mega Jacks also paid out R14 000 for Jasper dP.

I am known as ‘Kid Poker’ because of my charisma and renowned ability for reading my opponents’ cards. I was born in Toronto, Canada, in 1974 and I began gambling seriously at the age of 21 when I left college one credit shy of graduating. I have won two first places at the Wsorld Poker Finals, as well as five World Series of Poker bracelets and four World Poker Tour titles. I was the youngest WSOP bracelet winner in history, a record I held until 2004. I have won close to $10 million in live tournaments.
