South Africa’s top singing sensation for this year has been found! Jody Williams has been nominated as this year’s top Idol, bringing to an end our highly successful Reality Challenge Promotion. African Palace is proud to announce that we had over 150 winners taking away over R200 000 in bonuses and prizes! All eye’s were at Ellis Park on Sunday 9 December, as South African music fans were eager to find out who this year’s top Idol was! The centre of everyone’s attention was 17 year old Cape Town schoolgirl, Jody Williams and 20 year old Beauty Therapist Andriette Norman. In an emotional and power-packed two hours, these two ladies performed their best to make an impression that would make the biggest difference in their lives. Both starlets got a chance to debut the new Idols song Love is All Around. Andriette performed Allanah Mile’s Black Velvet and Anastacia’s I’m Outta Love, but it was Jody’s rendition of Whitney Houston’s Run to You and I Wanna Dance with Somebody that won over the judge’s hearts! Organisers for the show have confirmed that over 7 million votes have been received for the finals, with 58.5% of them belonging to Jody! Jody walked away with lots of prizes including R100 000 in prize money, a brand new Idols Edition Citroen C2 and a recording contract with SonyBMG! She has very nobly offered Andriette R50 000 of her prize money, as she believed that both of them had earned their way in the final, but Andriette turned it down, saying that it rightfully belonged to Jody! Jody was also surprised by a special recorded message from her favourite diva, Celine Dion, who congratulated Jody on her win and also announced that Jody will get the opportunity to perform in the opening act of all Dion’s shows in South Africa during her tour in February! Congratulations Jody! WEEK 1 In our first Idols Prediction competition, Yolanda was the unlucky contestant who got voted off and Simon Cowell was identified as the person originally involved in Pop Idols. With the Survivor leg of the Reality Challenge over, African Palace is proud to announce that we had over 40 winners taking away over R100 000 in bonuses and prizes. The past couple of weeks saw the Survivor SA contestants brave the challenges that faced them, with Lorette Mostert walking away with the Ultimate Survivor title. She’s A Survivor! The Carnival City’s Big Top Arena came under the spotlight on Wednesday 14 November, as fans of Survivor SA sat at the edge of their seats, waiting for the nail-biting moment that the winner of the second series was announced! Lorette Mostert, a police woman is the country’s latest millionaire after weeks’ of tough competition in the game of skill, betrayal, endurance and strategy. In a run-up to the Final, four brave and determined finalists, Mandla, Lorette, Grant and Amanda were challenged to the series final and ‘make-or-break’ challenge. The contestant’s willpower, strength and determination to be a millionaire were tested by means of a pole erected in the Malaysian ocean, where contestants were expected to maintain their balance while standing on the pole in the burning sun. Mandla was the first to fall – after a grueling two hours. An hour later and as contestant’s had to switch to balancing on just one leg, Grant took a fall into the ocean’s waves. Amanda followed not too long after, leaving a jubilant Lorette behind, celebrating her immunity! Back at camp Amanda and Grant took different approaches to try and win Lorette’s favor. While Grant chose to give Lorette some space, Amanda tried joining alliances with her. Lorette announced that it was Grant who would contend with her for the Ultimate Survivor title. At the Grand Finale at Carnival City, Lorette and Grant were subjected to a series of tough questions by a jury and motivating why they thought they should take home the prize money. It was now time for the jury to vote! All eyes were transfixed on host Mark Bayly, as he held the box with the jury’s verdict. He ended the suspense by announcing Lorette as the season’s Ultimate Survivor securing 3 votes, to Grants 2.
WEEK 1 In week one of our Survivor prediction competition, Angela may have been unlucky by getting voted off. Congratulations goes out to our lucky winners who made the correct prediction, as well as those clued up on their Sanskrit and correctly answered that Malaysia is Sanskrit for Land of the Mountains!
