Thinking About the World Champions! South Africa entered the World Cup Tournament as one of the strong favourites to bring home the cup but even if the bookies didn’t think that we could be World Champions, the entire country was still firmly behind the Boks. In the African Palace Think Inside the Boks competition players were asked to predict the winning margins of each of the Springbok pool matches. Players had to select who they thought would win each match and the resulting margin of their win. In an astonishing observation, no player from the thousands of submissions received predicted that South Africa would lose any of the matches. And their dedicated support to their national heroes was rewarded dutifully as the Boks did win every match in their pool to progress to the next stage of the competition. The competition took a brief hiatus here as the Boks went on to defeat Fiji 37-20 in the quarter-finals and Argentina 37-13 in the semi-finals. But when it was finalized that the Boks would meet then reigning Champions England in the final after demolishing them 36-0 in the pool stages, African Palace gambled with a little premature celebration as we decided to giveaway bonuses up to R30 000 during the build-up to the final as well as resurrect the Think Inside the Boks prediction competition one last time and give away stunning World Cup Hampers. Once again, players’ patriotism glistened in the record number of submissions received as every entry touted the Boks as the next World Champions. Of course we all know what happened after that, as the Boks went on to defeat England 15-6 to regain the World Cup they won in 1995. The Boks finally knew what it felt like to be World Champions again and the following players knew what winning felt like as well.
Think Inside the Boks - Winners The following players correctly predicted the winning margin for pool matches and correctly answered the Trivia. They each won a hamper worth R4000 each:: SA 57 - 7 Samoa SA 36 - 0 England SA 30 – 25 Samoa SA 64 – 15 Samoa The following players won hampers to the value of R5000 each for correctly predicting that the Springbok will beat World Champions England to WIN the World Cup.
