The football legends shone up their boots as they prepared for SoccerEX 2008. African Palace gave you the ONCE in a lifetime opportunity to catch your football heroes in the act as they dribbled their way back onto the pitch. That’s Right! - English heroes John Barnes, Ossie Ardille along with midfield legend Glen Hoddle plus many more world renowned football favourites were seen at this year’s exclusive SoccerEx 2008 in association with African Palace online casino.
What can we say? African Palace gave twenty lucky players the chance to tackle their way onto the forefront of the legends pitch. All you had to do was answer three easy questions and hold thumbs to see if your name got drawn. You could have found yourself jetting off in style as we took twenty lucky players and their partners to a SoccerEx extravaganza held at Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton, Gauteng on the 23rd November. If you managed to answer all three questions correctly you stood the chance to enjoy the company of your favourite football stars plus join us for an all inclusive VIP three course meal. The VIP lunch kick started the day’s festivities that included the best soccer action in the southern Hemisphere. Take a look at what was on the Agenda!
Action Attractions
A local youth tournament started the afternoon with an ex-pro competition, fronted by former players John Barnes, Bryan Robson, George Weah and Glenn Hoddle, with freestylers and African dancers entertaining the enthusiastic crowd between matches. This year's competing legend teams were Manchester United, Liverpool FC, FC Barcelona and the African All Stars.
The Agenda
- African Palace players enjoyed an exclusive VIP three course lunch featuring 5 star cuisines in our SoccerEX VIP suite. (13h00)
- The Festivities started with the Diski 5 GP" Five-a-Side football tournament Final that took place at 15h00. Followed by a short trophy presentation at 15h45
- Our players caught some of the most talented upcoming football stars from around the world live, as the David Beckham Academy performed a remarkable showcase session at 16h15.
- Local entertainment performed the classics of African Dance followed by the explosive dance sequences of the best freestyle dancers in the country (17h00 – 17h15)
- Matt Lorenzo from Sky sports gave an opening speech in which he welcomed all the stars to Soccerex 2008 (17h15)
- The Charity Fundraiser was played between UNICEF select Vs Diambars academy at 17h30
- Local entertainment including traditional African Dance took us through to the first legends match. (17h50 – 18h05)
- The football legends took to the pitch in the 1st Legends football match featuring rivals Liverpool and the red devils of Manchester United. A ONCE in a life time opportunity for our players who caught the stars up close and personal! (18h05 – 18h35)
- An Exclusive Freestyle dance routine took us through to the 2nd Legends Match featuring Local side African All Stars who played FC Barcelona – one of the worlds biggest football sides. FC Barcelona are renowned for their talented players including Ronaldinho, Maradona and plenty more.
- Traditional African Dance classics along with the pin ultimate in freestyle dance built up the hype for the legendary final match between the African All Stars and Manchester United.
- The Southern Hemisphere’s legendary football match kicked off with the all time greats showing us what they were made of in the grand finale. Manchester United Walked away victors with a 6-1 win.
- African Palace and Kagiso announced the most valuable player and presented the winning trophy to Manchester United for a remarkable display of skills and talent(20h05 – 20h35)
- The night ended with live African Classical music and a few exclusive drinks in the Lekgotla restaurant.
